BIM (as I have read) is Building Information Management.

And its intent - as you say is for construction analysis, scheduling, and building maintenance.

There are several levels information that can be stored in a Revit/BIM drawing, ranging from Level 1 to Level 7 if I remember. The most info that I've seen available in a Revit sprinkler block was minimum
flow rate (15 gpm) and a thread size.

If Revit took it to the max and included everything, what good would it be?

Who would "repurpose" a system in Revit or for that matter, understand any sprinkler component?

I have designed several Revit/BIM-based jobs - the primary purpose of which was coordination, of course. As for analysis though, pipe only screws in one way. Since 3d can be inserted into a Revit file
anyhow, why use Revit for design?

The only advantage that I can see is that if we throw out all cad programs (including Autocad), we
can all do the same thing the same way.

Am I misunderstanding something?

My understanding is that Revit is a platform for BIM.
