[F] 903.3.1.2 NFPA 13R sprinkler systems. Automatic sprinkler systems in
Group R occupancies up to and including four stories in height shall be
permitted to be installed throughout in accordance with NFPA 13R.

However, and as noted in the commentary; "it must be noted that although
the building would be considered sprinklered throughout in accordance with
NFPA-13R, NOT ALL OF THE CODE SPRINKLER ALTERNATIVES could be applied. Any
alternative that requires the installation of an NFPA-13 system would not be
applicable if a portion of the building utilizes an NFPA-13R system."

Again aside from 510 special provisions...........

504.2 Building Height - 903.3.1.1 NFPA-13...........Except Group R - 13R
recognized, 20 Feet, 1 Story with a maximum 4 stories and 60 feet.

506.3 Building Area Increase - 903.3.1.1   NFPA-13

508.4 Occupancy Separation - 903.3.1.1 NFPA-13.....however designer could
still have separated occupancies with 13R utilizing the non sprinklered
column and a 2 hr separation.

Theres more....................

there's no dispute as to whether Table 508.4 requires a full 13 system. The
question is does the IBC consider a building with a 13R system to be
protected throughout.
