Thanks for the info, however as stated before this State does not mandate nor has adopted the ICC code set. Municipalities may adopt the ICC if they desire but they are not required to do so. The minimum code standard is the LSC. So if you are not in a municipality you are pretty much permitted to do as you see fit.

Going back as far as the 2006 IBC paragraph 901.2 “Fire protection systems. Fire protection systems shall be installed, repaired, operated and maintained in accordance with this code and the International Fire Code. Any fire protection system for which an exception or reduction to the provisions of this code has been granted shall be considered to be a required system. Exception: Any fire protection system or portion thereof not required by this code shall be permitted to be installed for partial or complete protection provided that such system meets the requirements of this code.” The IFC paragraph for non-required fire protection systems paragraph 901.4.2 which states “Nonrequired fire protection systems. Any fire protection system or portion thereof not required by this code or the International Building Code shall be allowed to be furnished for partial or complete protection provided such installed system meets the requirements of this code and the International Building Code.” NFPA 13 2007 paragraph 4.1 states “4.1 Level of Protection. A building, where protected by an automatic sprinkler system installation, shall be provided with sprinklers in all areas except where specific sections of this standard permit the omission of sprinklers.” NFPA 13 1947 edition Section 1 General information, paragraph 100 Forward states “These standards are in general the minimum requirements for the installation of sprinkler equipments (automatic and open systems) in buildings housing one or more of the following or similar Light, Ordinary or Extra Hazard Occupancies, except where additional rules or requirements are amendatory of these standards for Extra Hazard Occupancies as covered by separate standards.* Historically NFPA 13 has always required that where automatic fire sprinklers are installed the sprinkler are installed in accordance with the legal edition of NFPA 13 and the legal editions of the Building and Fire Codes. Anyone know where that is, I’ve hunted all over and can’t find it within either the 2010 or 2013 NFPA 13 editions. Craig L.
