Are you using Virtual Memory and if so how much? Also, have your
run Disk First Aid on your Hard Drive? Truly random crashes point
to hardware problems rather than software. When did you add your
extra ram, and can you live without some of it. Also, do you have
any other PCI cards and is the iX 3D in one of the 2 slots closest to
the motherboard. You might ask on the PowerMacs mail list for info
on running the iX card under 8.6, as that card out of production and
it's drivers haven't been updated in a while. As a test, could you
run with just the SM's built in video and see what happens, or would
this present problems? Also, what are you using for a CD-ROM driver
and what are you using for hard drive drivers?

As a reference, my SM has been extremely stable, and I have not had
it crash for an unknown reason for quite some time. The problems I
do have stem from Internet Exploder and some games causing problems.
My setup:

SM 5500/200
Newer G3/400/200
160MB Ram
VM is Off
OS 8.6
Original 2Gig IDE + 20 Gig Maxtor
Apple ROM'd SCSI CD-ROM
ATI Rage Orion
SIIG USB
Somebody's Ethernet card, but I don't remember who's
