Okay.
I used apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade to upgrade from rain
to hail via cdrom. What have I done? Sawfish just brings up
errors. I deleted the .gnome files from my home file but it doesn't
work. When logged in as root, I don't even get gnome but rather
enlightenment with no file manager (and I can't find it anywhere -- I
do have access to kdm but without a panel of any sort).
When I look through the log of what's been done to my system, I
see that a large number of libs and packages were never installed
due to a number of dependency conflicts and configuration errors.
While some were being installed I often saw something like:
warning: can't find /usr/lib/libslang.so (not a directory or file doesn't
exist)... skipping.
That one came up ALOT!
What is it?
I know, all so vague... this is more a rant/question. :) When I settle
down a bit I will take care to write down all the errors I can find to
be more specific. It just seems apt-get didn't really get much done
in terms of upgrading.
Anyway, rain always worked well and I thought hail would be a nice
improvement but I seem to have really confused the poor dear.
Also, since I am still a newbie, I was wondering with the apt-get
upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade, was the kernel touched at all?
Since hail is 2.2.16 and rain is 2.2.14 (I believe).
Oh so many questions... so little time. :)
Thanks for anyone willing to respond to my rare rant. I'm usually
alot more composed. :) Later!
