It's a Compaq Presario 1255 with ES1869 soundcard. You mean that
playing (changing) with the IRQ, DMA, I/O in BIOS, might get the sound
work? Ok, I'll try that. However, in SAS I selected Soundblaster and it
worked, but the sound is awful, it's like I have a delayer. Strange, though,
with other distros it worked well, but I'd like to stick to Storm.

At least this explains why in Rain power-off worked very well on my
laptop and now is not, I was very surprised to see that, but this is it.
Unfortunately, as I said in the previous mail, I would've solved these two
problems easily but I couldn't find the power-off option in this kernel and
above all, the kernel failed to recompile due to errors concerning the
sound drivers.

I'm afraid I don't know what's tasl-laptop. I installed apmd, but it says "No
APM support in kernel", which get me back to kernel recompile.
