If Windows boots without hanging, then FreeBSD isn't handling states properly. If Windows also hangs in the same circumstances, it might be something that needs to be set up properly. I don't know about your motherboard, but some motherboards had 4 COM ports, even though they only had one wired to accept a plug. FreeBSD properly handled those boards, so unless the BIOS leaves the computer in some untenable state, I'm not sure why the loader wouldn't work. Thanks, Gerald
