My Tandy 1000HX, which is an XT-class machine, originally had an
8088-2 cpu, capable of either 4.77 or 7.16 Mhz. I had heard that if I
replaced the chip with a NEC V20, I would get faster speed. I did
that, and it worked. The V20 runs at the same Mhz, but instructions
take fewer clock cycles, I've heard. Some instructions are faster
than others.

In addition to the faster speed, I've heard that the NEC V20 can also
run CP/M programs, and programs compiled to use 80186 instructions.
I'm not sure what 80186 instructions are, but they might be a subset
of 80286 instructions that run in Real mode only. My question is if
anyone is actually using this chip to run CP/M or 80186 programs, and
which programs they are, and where available, in case I want to do the
same. Thanks.
