Honestly, I wouldn't pay for a meeting (except for the beer I consume). I like SwiNOG, because people share knowledge and techies can socialize. I like the facts, that somebody is organizing a meeting and putting efforts into it (Thank you all - you know who you are).
But if I had to pay - I wouldn't go there. I can meet techies on other occasions and for free (like the "call for beer" this monday).
