On syndic8 it's required. Specs or not. We've got /some/ leeway on feeds in english that lack any tag but that's more for historical reasons rather than any anglo-centric bias. The historical issues caused by developer biases and lack of understanding. > I agree, that's a shortcoming in the spec. Sure they are, feeds clearly not in english that have that set as the language tag. Sadly WP defaults to this and hasn't made it clear to users how to deal with it. As a result they unwittingly produce a bad feed. Couple that with the rather indifferent (and that's being kind) attitude on the part of some WP developers and, well, there you are. > There are a lot of HTML pages that don't include language metadata > either. Because that's the type of action you seem to be > suggesting. Y'know, I really don't want to get into arguments over this. Comparisions to the shitty-ass situation that is HTML are nowhere near relevant. Feeds are expected, by and large, to be machine produced and processed. As such it's entirely reasonable to expect the software that produces them do a service to their users by producing accurate and useful data. I'm about sick and tired of people that take the "we dare not demand better data" approach. All this energy put into working around what can easily be done right the first time is just ridiculous. If the data's not present or wrong we won't be able to effectively list it. To do otherwise WOULD be a disservice to our audience. -Bill Kearney ------------------------ Yahoo!
