yup that was it, sorry to sound like I am beating a
dead horse, but I thought I would just give a heads up
for any java people out there:

when using httpclient be sure to change the agent
header as google rejects:
"Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.0",

google works perfectly now, izzy is now returning no
articles, but at least that is a step in the right
direction.
