I've done similar in the past, the 2u boxes were a little cheaper (becouse 
everyone wanted the 1u) and the cooling was significantly better in the 
2u.

since the choice was 1u with gaps between servers (which then need extra 
effort to fill if you want to get good airflow) or 2u filling the rack it 
was a simple choice.
