I've always thought that was an odd thing too. I guess that since they pay the same taxes the rest of us do, they felt entitled to some federal freeways, and got them. They are numbered differently, as H1, etc., rather then I-35 or whatever. Funny, though, Alaska doesn't seem to have gotten the same deal so far, and it is at least connected by land to Canada.
