Even though Lombardi resigned from his position as President of the
University of Florida and has been assigned a position on the faculty,
some students still want him to sign their diplomas.Apparently, this will
not take place because,at the time of their graduation in 2000,he will
not be the President .UF thinks that if it allows this,it will be a
disservice to the new incoming Prez, and it be setting a bad precedence
for students to assume that they can have their diplomas signed by
anyone of their choice.
Although Lombardi's accomplishments at UF have been admirable, why would
students want their diplomas signed by a person who called the Black
Chancellor of UF an oreo?
or even by a Prez of Rutgers U. who remarked that blacks were not
intellectually up to par.
