It does *what* now?

Oh, that's zsh's right-side-of-the-line current directory marker, I
bet.

The same thing happens when I use sh, but I'll test with sh and a
very simple PS1.

My actual PS1 is:

rpowell@ut00-s00000> export | grep -i PS
PS1='rpowell@ut00-s00000> '

fwiw, it's the RPROMPT that's probably doing it.

So, new version: screen/tmux, export PS1='$ ', export
SHELL='/bin/sh', script, seq, vim.

Checked; no weird prompt stuff.

Problem persists.
