What is the exact model #?  It may indeed be a beta or store unit unit
with a different firmware chip that has been locked to that particular
firmware, they did that for the SB3/Classic.  Also the Radio had beta
units originally that had to be returned & destroyed for the same
reason.  Using the internet radio portion means nothing as far as
determining if it is beta or not, betas need to test such access &
services.  If it is truly a beta it is likely not usable.

On the other hand the 7.4 version may have simply been the factory
firmware level going back two plus years now.

Can you connect it directly to www.MySqueezeBox.com to attempt a
firmware update?
