Hi Rudolf,
it sounds like you might be having two independent issues, one relating
to to the network drive and one relating to the LMS versions. I think we
need to separate these out and work on them one by one, otherwise you
will go crazy trying to figure out what is caused by what.

First off for testing purposes, put a few albums of songs on the hard
drive of the computer and ignore the NAS for now, lets focus on the
server and firmware issues first. Its best to load LMS 7.7.1 on the
computer, it's the same version used by mysqueezebox.com so you should
not get a conflict there. Hardwire both the Touch and the computer
running LMS to the network, if one or both are too far away,
temporarily move them to a location where you can wire it up. (they can
be plugged into different switches/routers as long as both are on the
same LAN) This is all to try and cut down on the number of variables
involved.

With a browser connect to the web interface of this LMS <IP>:9000 and
point the server to the hard drive and directory where you put the few
albums. Do a full scan of the library. When this is done start the
Touch, it should find LMS, it may download firmware to a 7.7.1 version
if one is not already on the Touch.

At this point you should be able to play those few albums, play
internet radio, switch to mysqueezebox.com and play radio, services
etc. It should just work and not cause any new firmware updates. If
this doesn't work let us know right away and we can try and straighten
it out.

If this is all working, then try adding some music to the disk and try
a rescan. Does that do what you expect?

If that works, THEN we can try running off the NAS. A NAS adds several
layers of complexity. For starters you need to be able to both read and
write to the NAS since the database files are usually stored on the same
disk as the music files so NAS setup as readonly will not work. It can
get tricky to make sure that the NAS gets mounted read/write. It can
also be a user issue, frequently a remotely mounted filesystem can be
read by anybody but can only be written to by a specific user. Again
this can get interesting to setup properly taking bother proper
settings on the NAS and the PC.

I hope that gives some hints on how to proceed.
