Objectives of ODPG
The Open Document Format Promotion Group, Japan (ODPG) was established
to promote increased use of OpenOffice.org and ODF among user
enterprises and organizations. The sharing of experiences among
current users will help ODPG to promote and encourage the use of
OpenOffice.org and ODF among potential users. In addition, by
gathering together companies and organizations that are users of
opensource software and open standard, ODPG will be able to present
user expectations and demands and to encourage developers to improve
their opensource software and open standard.
ODPG aims to become an open user community that promotes activities
contributing to the development of the OpenOffice.org community and to
ODF preparations. ODPG will start by supporting efforts to establish a
new volunteer recruitment program to support and enhance the
activities of the OpenOffice.org Japanese Language Project, which is
currently run by a small number of volunteers. The open recruitment
program includes a training program to encourage newly recruited
volunteers to participate in community activities such as product
release tests and translation of technical documents and to improve
their skills through these activities.
To develop the training program, ODPG will present requests for
quality and document improvement from the users' point of view. In
this way ODPG will support the OpenOffice.org Japanese Language
Project to realize an effective training program. ODPG will start the
training program later this year and will also help with subsequent
improvement of the program.
