I've been following this discussion for a while and though I was actively trying to avoid it, after today's Dapper artwork update I felt like jumping in. I'm just taking a moment to vent my opinion and thoughts on the matter, which may not necessarily reflect other points of view.
The backstory: I was really eager to get today's update in, with both Human and Tangerine being updated. I was already thinking of new icons being added to the Firefox themes I'm working on. After pressing the "Install updates" button I was ready for just about anything. I thought. In my mind I was thinking of the Human update resolving the fuzzy icons in the Applications menu, adding a "Recent Documents" icon and possibly even adding some missing icons for the Firefox themes. So I anxiously rebooted, politely following the update-manager's advice and fired up Nautilus to get worki... Wait a moment. I'm not sure if I like those green navigation arrows, the blue refresh icon stands a bit out and the stop icon is fairly intrusive. And they look kind of tiny. Looking further I found out that a lot of the new Human icons only come in certain resolutions so I can not use any of them currently for building a Firefox theme yet. It feels like Human is still largely under construction while Tangerine feels already quite complete. So based on the current status of both icon themes I really prefer Tangerine, since it's more complete, has a lot more crisp visible icons and it delivers different icon sizes alongside the SVGs. I also think the earthish colors of Tangerine fit in better than the greens and blue Human now seems to provide. So, if I were to choose a default at this point in time, I'd go with Tangerine. I'm not sure what to do with Human now, since I can't build a new Firefox theme from the current icons. Both Tangerine and Tango do look good. But, to start working towards a solution: can anyone please tell me if there is a development repository of Human so that I can get SVGs or prerendered 24x24 icons to base the Firefox theme on now? I'd really like to continue my effort in providing Firefox themes consistent with the GNOME theme even though I might not be a fan of the GNOME themes myself. With kind regards, Frank Schoep P.S.: I'm still not sure if it was a wise decision to get involved, but I'd hate to see the default Dapper desktop look bad. I feel we still have a choice now to get things to work out right. -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
