Having not succeeded with the suggested mplayer commands in /usr/share/squeezecenter/custom-convert.conf I set about trying to find the binaries of lame and faad2 (being uncertain how to compile from source code) as stated in http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AAC. Searching via google etc, I put a load of repositories into my /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ sid main deb http://ftp.debian-unofficial.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free restricted deb http://updates.xepc.org/ p701 main deb http://dccamirror.xandros.com/dccri/ dccri-3.0 main deb http://www.geekconnection.org/ xandros4 main deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/eeepcrepos/ p701 main etch Not sure if this was correct, but eventually I managed to install lame 3.97-1 and faad 2.0-1duo+eetch1 and then change /usr/share/squeezecenter/custom-convert.conf to that shown in http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AAC Restarting SC - still no m4a playback and I also noticed that the entries for file types AAC/mov were greyed out in Settings/Advanced/File Types. I guessed that SC was not seeing custom-convert.conf so I put it back in the original directory where convert.conf is (/etc/squeezecenter). Magic - I could now hear my m4a files albeit with some gaps - presumably due to bandwidth problems on my all wireless system, and also all but one entry for AAC/mov files were not greyed out. Reverting to the mplayer version, there were now three entries greyed - just wav visible, and this also worked, but I guess I needed the bit-rate limiting from lame so I put the faad2/lame version back. Putting bit rate limiting to 256kbps cured the gaps in the music. Answering bpa'a comment, I guess I do have support for /dev/fd/4 whatever that means ;-) I will do more investigations of what is really needed from the packages and settings and post any further revelations. Thanks to you all and a happy new year. -- tony1tf ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tony1tf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22140 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45387 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
