OK, you guys with a lot more Linux knowledge than I have can duke out the theoretical issues all you want... but there IS a problem for the less-informed user. Can anyone show me how to get the permissions right so my Squeezebox will work with an external drive?
I figured out how to get it going in Karmic Koala. But I can't re-create that now that I've gone to Lucid Lynx. Here's what fdisk -l gives me in terminal for the drive I want to use: Disk /dev/sdc: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x8d399bc0 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 1 88402 710082763+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA) /dev/sdc2 88402 121602 266678273 5 Extended /dev/sdc5 88402 120853 260667392 83 Linux /dev/sdc6 120854 121602 6009856 82 Linux swap / Solaris ------------------------- Part of the problem I'm having is that I can't find the user SqueezeboxServer or SlimServer or squeezeboxserver or whatever combination when the Squeezebox program is started. And I get all confused about the drive names and directories etc. Am I trying to point this thing to a device, or to a directory? My syntax always seems to get kicked back. Why the heck can't I just change it when I right-click on the drive or directory and go to "properties" then "permissions"? I'm the user, after all. That'd be just easy, now wouldn't it? Anyway, any help would be massively appreciated. The directions here seemed pretty good: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/MusicOnLinuxUSBHardDrives EXCEPT it is screwing my up because logitech changed the names, I can't seem to get that nailed down so it works... -- jwb ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jwb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8116 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71700 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
