Couldn't find them new *anywhere* - and I work in the IT business!

I had to get 'em used off eBay.co.uk - and I was fairly pleased with that
price, which at that time was roughly twice the price of new SDRAM.

The thing is, whereas $24 would be a reasonable price for 128MB of
unbuffered 3.3V SDRAM, an old PCI PowerMac wants 5V buffered FP-DRAM or
EDO. 3.3V DIMMs won't fit, which is a shame, as I have a small bag full of
PC-66 ones. (All the PC-100 ones are in my PII. :) )

But generally, yes, European prices are dramatically higher than US ones.
In the UK, in particular, US prices are converted by changing the dollar
sign to a pound sign - adding about 33% on to the price. And that's
*before* tax.

It's a little better in continental Europe, where the Euro is worth
roughly a dollar: 1 =~ $1. So they have to get out their calculators to
modify the price, which means sometimes they don't bother.

Of course, if you buy from the US, you can get it cheaper... except:

[1] The shipping can cost as much as the savings

[2] The goods are sometimes checked as they come into the country, and
you've got a fair chance of getting hit with a tax bill, knocking out the
savings

[3] Manufacturers won't honour a US warranty outside the US, so if it
breaks down, you're stuffed.

So you can end up with a doorstop that cost more than buying locally.
