Memory (the wet kind) runs so short around technology. Running OS 7.5 on 32MB of RAM is not exactly memory starvation. In fact, I distinctly remember running an entire suite of apps simultaneously, including AppleWorks (then ClarisWorks), a CD or video player, HyperCard, SoundEdit, and a web browser! And the advantages of interleaving were barely noticeable then, with no VM and every app benefiting. By the time I switched to OS X, of course I had more RAM by then (also it was not all interleaved). Perhaps there is an argument to be made that OS X by dint of preemptive multitasking would benefit more than previous Mac OSes from all-interleaved RAM? I have seen this suggested, but not supported by any evidence.
Also, all of my reading has indicated that in the PCI PowerMacs, it makes absolutely no difference to speed whether the chips are 2K or 4K refresh. Your comment is the first claim I have seen that it does make a difference. Do you have any support for it specifically making a difference in older Macs, or are you going on general assumptions from modern technology? If so then you are likely mistaken. I'd like to know since this has been an issue of some interest to me. Paul.
