Greetings all,I started using Jaguar with the same Sonnet card you have. It worked fine; I later upgraded to the Sonnet 800 G4 when I spotted a good deal on eBay. I'm also running the same video card as you. It works just fine; without it, scrolling was pretty slow and jerky.
I currently own a PM 9600 with a Sonnet G3 500 and 640MB RAM, ATI Rage
Pro Video 128 Card, two 9 GB IBM UW SCSI drives on an ATTO SCSI card, and
the standard 4 GB drive on the internal SCSI bus. I currently run OS
9.2.2 and I would appreciate any feedback about several issues related
to moving to 10.2.2:
1. Is this machine adequate for OS 10.2 ), and will it give me performance comparable to what I have with OS 9.2.2?
I have a Bose system tied into my 7500, and I can reach down and adjust the sound on the bass/amp. However, I can adjust the sound level to some degree in iTunes--just not a very wide range. All my alerts come through the Bose setup.
2. I am currently a subscriber to the Xpostfacto tech forum and I do read
the post relative to my machine. There does appear to be some issues that
you have to live with such as no sound control for external speakers.
I don't use any of these, but Safari is really coming along and works well on 10.2.6.
3. I use Icab, and Mozilla and mozilla as my web browser and Powermail as
my mail client. Has anyone had any problems with these on an unsupported
machine with 10.2?
This is the same printer I have. I connected with an Appletalk/Ethernet bridge. It was simple to do and really works well.4. I have an apple laserwriter select 360, will I lose the use of this printer in 10.2?
I was running a DSL modem on 9.1. When I loaded Jaguar, everything came up running automatically; I didn't have to configure anything for the internet. I was astounded.
5. I have a verizon ADSL modem ( 640k) will it function under 10.2?
It runs great on my 7500. I had two kernel panics the first day. Once I got everything working, I haven't had a problem since, and that's fourth months ago.
6. Is OS 10.2 more or less reliable than 9.2.2 on these ( 9600) machines?
7. Are there any gotcha issues that I show be aware of for converting to 10.2?Have plenty of memory (I have 896MB) and room. I put it on too small a partition and ran into problems.
PM 7500, 800 MHz Sonnet G4, OS 10.2.6
