I've got some cross-linked file problems (>4,000) that running NU6 from OS9 won't fix, and that running NU7 off the damaged drive won't fix. I'm hoping that starting up from NU8 might work.

Do that only if you want to hone you're skills coping with the black screen of doom on a machine upgraded with XPF. It easy but a pain.
