I'm not sure why you say that. IBM has faster 970 cores and multiple core
970s in the roadmap right now. How does that differ from Intel, other than
the fact that they've got a better track record of delivering on their
promises?

OK, either you're using the word "roadmap" in a way that I'm not familiar
with, or you know something about Intel that I don't. Because the fact that
Intel's business has been making personal computer CPUs hasn't kept them
from radically changing their plans at the drop of a press-release. First
they were going to transition x86 to IA64, then they were going to do their
own 64-bit extension, now they're following AMD's design. First they were
going to stick with the P4, now they're bringing the PIII core back to the
desktop. I guess you can say that Intel's roadmap is better because if you
don't like it you just have to wait a year to get a new one.

Freescale MPC8641 Intel Pentium M
L2 cache 1MB 2MB
Clock 1.5 GHz + 1.5-2 GHz
Bus 2x677 MHz 533 MHz
Controller Internal 915 or 855 family
The e600 is a system-on-a-chip. It doesn't need most of the
external chipset: it's got 2 PCI-X ports, two memory ports, and
a 2.5 Gb/s interconnect. It's a desktop chip with laptop power
levels. And the G4 core is faster clock-for-clock. And then
there's the MPC8641D.
And that's not even looking at the e700 3 GHz 32/64-bit chips, because
after all, that's just on the "roadmap".
