gleichberechtigten LAMP umgebung nocht funktionieren kann. wie du schon
schreibst klaut mal apache2 mysql den speicher/cpu mal umgekehrt. darum taete
mich eure konfiguration fuer grosse dynamische sites interessieren. statische
seiten stellen kein grosses problem dar. achja der speicher ist nicht
ausgelastet:

Einstein-Jahr alles relativ..

Und nun schau da mal in die si/so Spalten und du wirst sehen, dass du
swapst. Das ist lahm. Das verursacht wahrscheinlich die seltsamen
"Pausen". Das liegt nicht am Apache2 - nicht direkt jedenfalls. Sondern
vielmehr an deiner Konfiguration. Dein MySQL frisst einen Großteil des
Speichers (Vielleicht zuviel getuned.. Lies mal in der MySQL Doku, es
gibt Formeln zur Berechnung des Speicherverbrauchs/Prozess auf der
Grundlage der Buffer/Caches etc.). Überleg dir ob du da zuviele
Connections erlaubst oder zuviel Speicher verschwendest.
Wenn das nicht der Fall ist, fahr die Zahl der Apache Instanzen runter..
Im Endeffekt musst du für _deine_ Ansprüche das Balancing zwischen Web-
und Datenbank-Anfragen selber hinbekommen. So gut, dass die Auslastung
des Servers groß ist, er aber nicht über diese Grenze steigt. Swappen
macht - wie du gerade merkst - keinen Spass und deine Performance kaputt.
