Added note: I just tested the .doc and .rtf files on MS Word 2000; both
abc.doc (your's unmodified) and my abcGG.doc (the one I modified) show
the figure numbers correctly (labeled as 1.1 and 1.2) in MS Word 2002.
Same with the .rft file, so it appears that the issue is primarily with
OOo in the interpretation of the .doc and .rtf file(s) in OOo only.
