I asked a similar question last week. People claim that the documentation says how to do it; but it does not. the only thing close iin the section on special charactes is maybe you are suppose to use \xXXXX where XXXX is a 4 digit hexadecimal for the character. However, I can not get this to work at all.

Thank you for CPHennessy for the tip to look for Regular Expressions.

With these keywords I could search the Internet and get more details about
replacing Tab, paragraph mark, etc.

I failed to find this information under OOo help... neither 'finding' nor
'replacing' keywords mentioned that this task should be handled with
'regular expression'.

Hi Thelma,

Did you try looking in Help under "Regular Expressions"?

This should have shown a table of the usage.

I have version 2.0 of the Writer doc. On page 51 is Table 1 which describes regular expressions. Basically, in both the find and replace fields, you can uses a regular expression instead of standard text. There are several books avaliable that show you how to write regular expresions or you can search for it on the web. Search for "regular expression".
