Actually the Macbook Pro is about the same price (maybe +300) as any pc
laptop in its class.  I don't know where you guys buy your laptops but
at work each of our Dell laptops comes in right about $2000.  Of course
we don't buy the piece of junk celeron $600 laptops.  I know thinkpads
are right around $2000 for equivalent specs.  I had a friend who just
bought a Quanta from http://www.powernotebooks.com/ (PowerPro G 3:8) and
it was right around $2000.  

By the way, powernotebooks have some pretty good prices and warranties
on laptops.  All of their laptops are from from the OEMs so they are the
same as many of the well-known brands like Toshiba, HP, etc.  It's
advertising propaganda for powernotebooks, but still interesting:
