Dunno about linux stuff, but we have one Vaio in the department that is
always having problems.  Probably more a user problem than anything
else, but we already had to send it away (no on-site repairs like Dell
and Apple) to replace the motherboard and a drive.  I really dislike the
design of the Vaio.  By the time you have everything you need attached
(cd drive, extra battery) you wonder why it was you bought a tiny laptop
in the first place.  Evan McNabb had a 12" Vaio and if I recall
correctly the keyboard had a really crummy shift key (impossible to hit
with your pinky).  He also had a lot of hardware problems with it and
has now gone to thinkpads.

In my experience there are better laptops than the Vaio.
