Oh...My...God!!! My Centris 610 just booted up! Hahaha!
I had opened up the floppy disk drive, blew out the dust and oiled some of the moving parts, like some in this thread had advised. Quite an intimidating feat, knowing I was dealing with delicate things like read/write heads. After the cleaning was done, I turned on the machine and it behaved like before, spitting out the inserted floppy. But I did notice that the floppy drive was doing its melodic grunting, something I hadn't heard (or didn't remember hearing) before. So just to double-check, I inserted another Disk Tools disk (this had the System Enabler on it). And bing-bong! I was greeted with "Welcome to Macintosh". What a sight for sore eyes. Man, it's been ages since I saw System 7. I barely remembered what it looked like, until now. So 1990s, in all its 2D unshaded glory. I feel giddy and nostalgic. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice! You guys are awesome! I'd like to pester you all with more questions, but I guess I'll start a new thread, since I no longer have a bootup problem. - Alan -- ----- You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
