Wow, thanks to everyone for their replies! Apparently, I forgot to have Google Groups send me notifications when someone replies to this thread, so I thought there were no replies. What a surprise I had today, when I manually logged in! So sorry for my lack of response in the past week.
I will try all of the fixes that you all have suggested. ------------------------------------------------------------------ And now, for some responses to individual posts: @ Dan - Yes, I do hear the hard drives spin up, and I feel a bit of vibration from them. I also hear the normal startup bong sound. I have already tried starting up from a floppy with the hard drive cables disconnected and it didn't work. @ Ken Daggett - Thanks for suggesting the PRAM fix. I didn't know a bad PRAM battery could prevent the whole thing from not booting! @ Jeff Walther - FYI, I don't have a CD-ROM drive in the Centris. The middle bay is installed with an extra hard drive. How do I provide SCSI termination if I remove both hard drives? @ hartonj & Beachycove - Thanks for suggesting the floppy drive fix. It never even occurred to me that the floppy drive could be busted, because it seemed to accept disks and spit them out like it was working. I will try to clean it carefully, since I've never done that before. Yikes! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Again, thanks to all who replied and I'm sorry I didn't write back earlier. I will update if I make any progress. Gratefully, - Alan -- ----- You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
