They don't open up like the IIsi does, or the LC III (which really did remind me of a pizza box). They have a removable faceplate and back cover, and most of the innards slide out from one of those two places. The back side even has a little wire handle to assist you in pulling the rear sled out. It's the only Mac I've ever seen that was put together like that. I can send you a picture if you like.
