A grey screen with only the cursor on boot is a sure sign of a SCSI termination problem.

You need to go back and double check your drives for correct SCSI ID's and correct termination.

Ken, I've set the drives on the JackHammer to get power from the bus, and the last one to provide termination. I believe it's correct. If I delete the stripe and replace it with simple partitions, both drives mount correctly, and have run a long test on the drives with no errors.

It's only if I try to mount a striped array that I get a problem.

Since this is the only reason (I can tell) for wanting to use FWB HDTK I'm really thinking this s/w is a con.

John,

I have never used the FWB software for RAID ( I like Hard Disk Speed Tools from IntechUSA ) so can't give advice about the software.

Make sure that you are not duplicating ID's, like having a drive on the internal bus set to "0" and one on the Jackhammer set to "0". While I understand that you should be able to do this for the sake of troubleshooting it is one less thing to have as a potential problem.

You also may need to have an active terminator at the end of the cable in order for those Wide drives to operate correctly.
