I like how anyone who disagrees with this post is going to be labeled as an Android fan boy. Not sure why people can't make their points and let them stand on their own. The fact of the matter is that you don't have to trade off security for functionality. I assume Apple does this to save themselves development and support costs, but this is a decision Apple and iPhone users have made.

Contrary to the statement below, Android does not allow your or anyone else to do whatever they want on your phone. This isn't true for Android, Windows, OSX or any other operating system perceived to be less secure than IOS. I'd encourage people to make up their own minds based on facts and not one sided statements like the one below. Believe it or not, someone can disagree with how Apple does something without being labeled an Android fan boy.

I know there is more malware on Android then there is on Apple, but numbers and statistics can be deceiving. There are more security vulnerabilities in IOS than Android, but this obviously doesn't make the Apple ecosystem less secure. Just because sweeps of the Play Store reveals more malware then what you'll see in the App Store doesn't mean that an Android user using some common sense will automatically be infected with malware and will have their phone taken over by some evil doer. Don't buy into the drama below.

Each platform has their own strengths and weaknesses. Security is obviously a strength of the Apple ecosystem, and it's perfectly OK for someone to take this into consideration when choosing an iPhone over another device. This doesn't mean that anyone who chooses another device or doesn't worry as much about security is a fan boy of another platform or has done anything wrong. Just because someone has a different set of priorities doesn't mean they're wrong.

For my part, I'm perfectly OK with the decisions I've made, and I don't get bent out of shape if someone makes a decision other than the one I made. I personally like choice, and I want as many accessible options out there as possible.

There is a reason why there is so much mal ware and stuff out there
affecting the Android platform and very little plagues iOS. I know there
are a few Android fan boys and girls on here and I am probably going to
generate outraged comments with this, but the facts are the facts. I
don’t want to say that iOS is perfect since nothing is, but I gladly
have a secure phone over one which allows me and everybody else along
with it to do whatever I want with it.

I think iOS has come a long way in the last 3 or so years in making it
more open with extensibility and all that without seriously sacrificing
the secure “walled garden” concept.

    Hi all,
I am very eager to try one of these drives. However, I was first
under the impression that most of them allowed the "Send to" option
so that material on the drive could be sent to another app. I
learned (fortunately before I made a purchase) that this is not the
case. We need to wait till the software for the drive that allows
Send To is accessible or until other drives offer the Send to option
with accessible software if we want to, as I do, grab books from my
computer and put them in Voice Dream Reader.
Let's keep our fingers crossed. For those of us who want to use the
drive to play material in its proprietary app, some of these drives
    are good solutions now.

Yes, I agree Rus, I think these drives, if they are accessible and
will handle all file types, are far superior. The increased cost is
rather small (I mean, suppose they are $40 instead of $20 for a
standard drive of some given size, $20 isn't so much that it makes
    it impossible).

From what I understand, with using dropbox, you first have to
    upload the
file to the cloud. Then you would use your Ios device to download
    the file
from the cloud. I have a number of zip files that are 600mb in
    size. This
would take a while to upload to dropbox. Using a flash drive, the
    transfer
would be a lot faster in my case.

You can access whatever information is on the USB drive, but only via
whatever app goes with the drive. You cannot, for example, put music
    on the
drive and then get this music to show up in the music app or, for that
matter, even copy it to the internal storage of your iPhone.
    Ringtones is
another example where you either have to buy them from iTunes so
    they are
available on the iPhone or you have to use iTunes to sync them to your
    phone.
The thumb drives are really no different than Dropbox or OneDrive in
    that
they are a way to access files stored on them by the app just as you can
access information stored in Dropbox or OneDrive with the Dropbox or
OneDrive app. Only difference is that with Dropbox or OneDrive the
    files are
in the cloud and with the USB drives they are physically on the
    drive which
you then have to plug into your Lightning port.

I have never used iTunes for windows, because I have a Mac. However, if
friend of mine was just told by an Apple accessibility senior
    representative
that window eyes works with iTunes for windows and is the only
    screen reader
which Apple says does that. I know that a few years ago, and it
    literally
has been years, GW micro had been touting this fact. But I know a lot of
changes have happened with both window eyes and iTunes since then I
    suspect
that this is the case of apple not keeping their propaganda, I mean
    their
publication, up-to-date. So for you who use Windows version of
    iTunes and
screen readers two questions. One, Is it true, WE users, that iTunes
    works
perfectly well with the latest version of window eyes? And two, what
    about
other screen readers? Do any work well?
