Let's just think what Apple is saying is true. If we decide businesses are all about profit and only profit, is that good for them? We all live in the same world with diminishing resources. I will give an example. There is some worry about whether there is enough of the sand used for buildings and perhaps sidewalks. All the things on this earth are finite. There is a limited amount of anything. If you don't care about yourselves and decide we should have everything we want when we want it, how does that help future generations who will inherit the earth we leave for them? Is this what you want for your grandchildren and generations to come? Have you ever thought about how many things we throw away which don't have to be but are because the abilities they have aren't the newest and latest. Last week, I sat and held my very first generation stream for a half hour before I threw it away. It no longer worked. I felt sad about this. I did finally throw it away. Go ahead and laugh and think it is old technology and primitive by today's standards. It gave me pleasure I will always cherish. I had a house fire in which I lost everything I owned. Perhaps because of that, I value what I own more than ever. I mourn sometimes still the loss of things I had no choice about. They are gone. I didn't get to choose. I heard on a dateline episode that one year K mart bought a million plastic garbage bags a day. That is just for one company. We treat the earth as if it there for us and forget the rest. Many of the things we throw away could be used by someone. That takes us back to shipping and business which brings me to a very important point. It probably won't happen but what should is that businesses and consumers work together. If the profit motive is all that matters or we are cynical in thinking only to get while the getting is good or to make things while making as much as we can, the world will be in dire straits. Not for us, but for those who will come later or are growing up we say we love and would do anything for. The fact is we probably wouldn't if it would inconvenience us. I am guilty too. When you use anything, throw away anything, multiply that by millions. Life is precious, and so is the precious earth on which we depend.
