Have you reported this, plus your normal skill with gestures, to Apple 
Accessibility? Unfortunately, until a cause can be determined, a fix is most 
likely not going to occur.

That said, in the original email, the person stated that one, two-finger double 
tap starts music in the player usually in a couple attempts, and two, the 
single-finger vertical flick up is not consistent - the volume goes up and 
down. These two statements point to the conclusion that the author needs more 
practice in the practice area.
