Fact is, the 'MiB' have more-or-less existed ever since J.P. Morgan & Co.
pulled the plug (so to speak) on Nikola Tesla: because they came to well
understand that such teknology WILL 'pull the plug' on a LOT more than
just the power grid and the electrical companies...

Morgan reputedly pulled the plug on Tesla's energy broacasting scheme when he realized there would be no way to meter and charge for the receiven energy. Tesla apparently planned a cluster of UV projectors to ionize the air in a channel to the ionosphere, and using the earth-ionosphere as cavity to so harge it that ueful energy could be received anywhere. Preliminary experiments in Colorado, reportedly illuminating a lamp miles away, was a precursor. The "lamps" the Tesla used in his demonstrations where high impedance gas-discharge devices of ingenious design, not Edison's low impendance incandescent lamps. Tesla was a master of quenched-arc power oscillators which drove his high frequency systems. Such a system, if working, would generate such worlwide electrical noise as to block all AM radio transmission.

Tesla's enduring contribution was the polyphase AC motor, which made AC power trasmission possible on a continental scale. His sponsor was Westignouse who won over Edison's DC system. Westinhouse's backers regarded Tesla's royalty of $1 per installed horsepower as too much [that was when $1 was real money]. Instead of renegotiating, Tasla tore up his contgract with Westighouse, losing an oppotunity for great wealth. He died in poverty in a slkkuite at the Waldorf-Astoria, his expensis paid by Morgan and others who hade become wealthy.

Sorry no MiB's. Edison's great invention was the industrial research laboratory, but he has no position in the pantheon of science. Tesla is so honored by official disgnation of the unit of magnetic induction as the Tesla, ranking with Ohm, Faraday, Volta, Oersted etc., remembered in technical dislcussions of their sciences.
