There could be a thermal mass heat storage effect and there could be a chemical or change of stage/molten metal type of heat storage or there could be Raney nickel type of reaction. And there may be mechanisms to cheat we are not aware of. You can't expect a skeptical person to think of all the ways in the universe that there may be for Rossi to cheat. Skeptics have always said and you seem to agree: the definitive test of the E-cat and Hyperion has to be a totally independent test by a reliable third party. That would acceptable to virtually all if not absolutely all skeptics. I can't speak for all skeptics. It would be quite acceptable to me if the experimenter was known and credible. A university department speaking officially and revealing details of materials and method as well as detailed data would be an example of reliable. So would a major government lab from a Western country.
