Yes, that is no doubt a reason. But still why are we stuck with people
having bought A1200's in 1993 for approx. $500 and then more or less
haven't upgraded it ever since?
The PC users I know have spent a lot more on upgrading their PC in the
meantime. It is more or less true if a PC user has to upgrade his computer
every other way, both with respect to processor, RAM, harddrive, CD-ROM
drive etc. etc. And PC users do actually more or less upgrade at such a
rate.
There is no doubt that Amiga equipment is expensive, but so is PC
equipment. Okay, if you want a 486 you will probably get it for free, but
if you want something up-to-date then it still costs a minor fortune even
though quite a bit less than 10 years ago. A new decent PC still costs
on the other side of $1500 in Denmark. And PC users tend to spend that kind
of money every other year. Why don't Amiga users spend a little now and
then?
The 060 boards are quite old and even though the price on such cards
haven't decreased the way the prices have on the PC they are certainly
cheaper today than they were years ago. Especially if you don't mind
buying it second hand.
I certainly can't find any excuse why people is using anything less than a
030 processor :) The Blizzard 060 for the A1200 is costing less than $700
today in Denmark - then why not upgrade instead for complaing about the
software being slow. And if you dared buy it by mail order from Germany it
would probably be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper then in Denmark.

The reason for no PPC software being available is definitely because nobody
is upgrading. If sufficient people upgraded to a PPC board then there would
also be a sufficient PPC user base to support development of PPC software.
But considering that even 68k developers can't make a living...
