I've broken two 6 1/2' Orvis 1oz (2 wt) because of it slipping up a bit while casting. I now do what Charlie described, about a 1/4 twist and seat it pretty hard. I also check it frequently while fishing... sometimes it just feels a little funny like I'm losing a little action in it - a tell-tale sign.

I was taught to push the sections together with a slight twist just as you seated the parts together. Maybe gunk on your ferrels? Or just the pain in butt messing with tape? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Leland Miyawaki Sent: Friday, January 28, 2005 8:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Broke ma rod Mark, There has been a lot of discussion on various spey sites vis-a-vis taping of ferrules. I used too but now simply check my ferrules periodically while fishing.
