Good Morning Ronni,
        I have a somewhat similar problem.  It is not with my bank statements 
but with the monthly invoices from Primus.  I have Safari Preferences set up 
exactly as you suggest for ANZ but am unable to download or print as PDF the 
said Primus invoices, no problems with any of the many other invoices and 
statements that come through.  This is something that has only relatively 
recently occurred, since around January or February I think.  My current 
solution, even though it is a bit annoying, is to perform the function with 
Firefox.
        I suspect, but am not sure, that it may be a Adobe problem as I don't 
have the option to open the PDF with Preview.
