Yes, thanks to Ott, I am now up to speed on the previous evolution of the damage system (before my time, sorry). In summary: the adding of percentages is too powerful, particularly maluses, and so resistance modifiers were changed to multiplication. ToD and leadership were left as additive percentages, and they're not too powerful because ToD is the only malus, and leadership is not the common case. The argument that +25% then -25% should cancel out (even though, of course, it doesn't mathematically) is the most powerful, for me. I have changed my mind, and believe we should leave the system as is: things expressed as a percentages (currently ToD and Leadership) are all combined together before applying, so +25% and -25% really do cancel out. Multipliers simply get multiplied. It's not perfectly simple, but it's *understandable*.
