Chris... I'm agreeing with you when I say that what I was trying to get across is that there is opportunity for smaller operators even when the giant operators are around, and even in your area, and even charging less than you are.
You have to understand your market(s) and take risks sometimes. In the beginning, the risk is larger. As you grow, you can afford to take less risk, but it is still there. Understand it, and look it in the eye. I got shocked once by electricity that threw me onto my butt 20 feet back. Now I respect electricity, but that doesn't keep me from working with it.
