HI Joe,

On my MacBook with direct USB interface to an FT-991, by adjusting Menu 73
‘DATA OUT LEVEL’ right down to 0, I can get the bar to show the yellow with the
meter at around 5dB level. Against the grey background the yellow does
somewhat appear white and I suspect some users may miss the fact that the color
is trying to draw their attention to the too-low audio level. Maybe should be
red also?

(By the way, at the zero setting I also get solid ‘birdie' spectrum lines at
1K, 2K, 3K and 4K on the graph, with traces of some louder stations just
showing between these).

When I adjust the Menu 73 up to 1, the audio jumps to around 20db and he bar
color to normal green (birdies disappear).

Radio Data Out Level -> Meter Audio
25.  -> 45db
50 (default) -> 55dB
75   -> 60dB
100 -> 67db

On my setup I am not able to ‘overdrive’ audio input.

By the way, I am using Qt5.8 and I just noticed that the band selection
dropdown is now working 100% again.
When I switched to 5.8 originally last month (to sort my audio issue), I
noticed the dropdown did not drop - but I could still just enter the band
manually.

Lots of activity on 7.076 this evening….

------------------
Please let us know what you think of the changes made in r7597 to the
audio level meter. In particular, to the color(s) used for the
thermometer bar.

For a trial period, we now have red indicating A/D saturation, green
"normal" levels, and yellow noise levels so low that quantization errors
are significant. One should "almost never" see the warning colors
unless something is significantly wrong, so my feeling is that the color
changes should not be distracting in normal operation.

Should we stay with the three-color arrangement? If yes, could we
choose a better set of three colors?
