[IMail Forum] contacts conversion
Just an FYI that the contacts conversion requires a name along with an email address to be imported. Just spoke with a client that swore she had 50+ contacts and only has 3 now. A quick check of the alias.txt file reveals that she had no names associated with the emails.
[IMail Forum] KB for contacts conversion
apparently I wasn't the only one that noticed the contacts issue without names: http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20051201-DM01.htm

[IMail Forum] Upgrade Problem
I tried upgrading to Imail 2006 over the weekend, but didn't get very far. When I try to run the install, it doesn't seem to recognize that I already have Imail installed - it appears to be trying to install without upgrading what I already have. Maybe the problem is I don't have Imail installed in the default location. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me? Thanks! [IMail Forum] HELP! Email Messages Lost
Title: HELP! Email Messages Lost OK, so Im running IMail 7.15 HF2 on a Windows 2000 Server. I had my IMail drive fill up completely yesterday ( I didnt get a notification because someone turned off Monitoring) which caused the POP3 service to stop. OK. Turns out my Declude logs where huge and simply filled my drive. So Ive cleared out the logs and all is running fine. Now, Ive received calls that users are missing emails, meaning that over the weekend they would check their email and see that there were like 100+ emails in their inbox. However if they logged out and logged back in again, there were zero emails. This by the way is with the web interface as they were unable to connect using Outlook or OE. Is this possible? Why would this happen? If the email was received in the inbox why would it then simply disappear? Can anyone shed some light on this dark subject? Im afraid of the dark!well at least this type of darkness. Troy D. Hilton Serveon, Inc. [EMAIL PROTECTED] 302-529-8640

The only thing not brought across that I found was the daily email notification of email sent, received et al. I simply added the postmaster email address and all was well. I also under steps 8 and 9, I deleted both keys before importing, it's not clear on step 9, but that's what I did and it seemed to work fine. I did the move in about 20 min. with maybe 4 gig of folder junk. Be sure to patch both to the same level. Leave both offline until you test the new one from the console. If it's not working simply plug the old server back on the network. If it works plug the new one onto the network. I felt very safe with the knowledge I could go back to the old one at any time up to the point you go live with the new box. Enjoy your weekend. I am assuming Ipswitch will help me there. http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19980116-JB11.htm Things I have noted to add to the list: 1. Disable EDNS on the new server 2. Make new server same machine name as old server just for the migration, then change it back after it is complete. When upgrading to 2006 (just spoke to tech support) 1. Make sure II6 is installed 2. Make sure .NET Framework 1.1 is installed. Thanks! Travis
[IMail Forum] Amazing IPSwitch Problems
This is really amazing; the recent special to renew the imail service agreement caught my attention and it seemed like ipswitch was finally interested in providing a product that was not simply about trying to screwing existing customers. So, based on the information in this newsletter, and discussions with ipswitch I decided to take advantage of the offer and purchase a new service agreement. I purchased from Jenny at CDW as recommended here. BIG MISTAKE. She somehow managed to sit on my order until the offer expired, then informed me that the product had been discontinued! I even have documentation confirming my purchase on 11/23. So I called ipswitch to see what they could do well, they said the product no longer exist (a service agreement mind you!) but they would be happy to sell me the latest cross-grade at a 25% discount. I was absolutely amazed that ipswitch would not honor the original offer. I had provided them with supporting documentation showing that I had in fact purchased the service agreement from CDW on 11/23 and CDW screwed up the order, but they still refuse to honor the original offer. They even believed they were doing me some sort of favor by offering me a discounted cross-grade. Anyhow, it really felt like a bait and switch job and had I been unsure, that conversation convinced me that I do not want to purchase anything ipswitch going forward. Hey ipswitch: I have rarely seen such poor customer relations. I am now convinced that I do not want to use any ipswitch products going forward. So, ip you have lost me as a customer, which probably doesnt matter to you since I am a small customer, but realize that I am out there working as a network / software consulting company and a lot of big companies happen to be clients; you can bet I will never recommend another ipwsitch product. Anybody have any good recommendations for an imail replacement? Sincerely, SteveWheeler

I am getting the feeling from everything that i'm reading that i will no longer beable to run Imail and my web sites on the same server. I know I know kinda crazy runing 4 websites and 1 email server from the same server. I getting to the point where i'm afraid that if i do up grade that my b2b websites will crash. so i will have to make my test server a production server. Most people have a stand alone email server. I'm not that lucky as we cut cost where we can and putting imail on a stand alone server just doesn't make much sence until you get scard that by doing so a cluster of things can happen. so a few questions for you brave souls out there. 1) anyone running b2b sites and Imail 2006(upgraded from 8.21) on the same server and if so what problems have you had to work around. 2) would it be easier for me to just install Imail 2006 on a stand alone computer with a clean install of everything and migrate the user accounts over? 3) is there an easy way to migrate from 8.21 to a stand alone 2006 server. being that it is a complete rebuild are the registry keys the same, can i just move like i normally do? or is there a utility that will help me with this. I plan on trying to get this done tonight. currently i'm moving my backup server to another server to make free a server for imail. but if there are little dangers of me messing up the current iis config for my b2b websites then i may just upgrade where it is. thank you Pip

Hi Mark, Most people have a stand alone email server. I'm not that lucky as we cut cost where we can and putting imail on a stand alone server just doesn't make much sence until you get scard that by doing so a cluster of things can happen. so a few questions for you brave souls out there. From a professional point of view, i do not recommend to share a server for different services. If this server fails, mail and your websites will go down. 2) would it be easier for me to just install Imail 2006 on a stand alone computer with a clean install of everything and migrate the user accounts over? I prefer this solution. Some people are using this situation to upgrade everything, e.g. moving to Windows 2003 ) is there an easy way to migrate from 8.21 to a stand alone 2006 server. being that it is a complete rebuild are the registry keys the same, can i just move like i normally do? or is there a utility that will help me with this. It's the usual way like we're used to have in earlier versions. I learned yesterday, that the contacts has to be imported afterwards since they are now stored in a MS access database. I didn't tried yet. Am Montag, 5. RE: [IMail Forum] email address as login
If you have multiple email domains you will need to specify the full email address.this has always been the case. Unless each domain has its own IP address, in which case when you use webmail you use that particular IP rather than the primary IP of the server. But if there are multiple domains which are set up as virtual domains, then of course you will need to enter the full email address. How will Imail know which user in which domain you want to log on as? If you had [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED], Imail needs to know which user you are, so the full email address would be required. I only have one email domain setup on my test Imail 2006 Server and it logs in fine without the domain. But I tried adding a second domain and I had to use the full email address of users in the second domain if there was already an email account in the primary domain with the same name. Hope that makes sense? This worked in IMail 8.21 or I'm not well in the head. I know you have to specify for pop3 but web messaging worked as long as the url was correct. RE: [IMail Forum] email address as login
Do you have multiple domains, and are they setup as virtual domains or with their own IP addresses? RE: [IMail Forum] email address as login
Well, from my usage of Imail, I would see that logging in with the full email address would definitely have to be required. As I said in my first email, how does Imail know which account in which domain you want to log in as? The webmail address for all of the domains would be same right? So.Imail needs to be able to distinguish between [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED]. There needs to be a way for it to know which one you want to log in as. I cant comment on whether this used to work in previous versions as we dont use Virtual Domains. Anyone else have some comments on this? RE: [IMail Forum] Amazing IPSwitch Problems
Hi Steve, We felt the same way about imail and ipSwitch when they originally stopped selling Imail as a stand-alone product. I am convinced that IPSwitch is a marketing company, not a software company. The fact that it took them a year and a half to come up with a directory harvest attack solution is evidence to that. Their first implementation of AV was a disaster as well. Anybody have any good recommendations for an imail replacement? We switched to Merak and never looked back. Its an amazing, tightly integrated and well thought out product. After using Imail for 2 years, Merak is a breath of fresh air. Re[2]: [IMail Forum] Amazing IPSwitch Problems
Confusion?? .seems pretty clear what is going on.he called and explained the situation, you told him he was screwed. . . I'm sure that Steve did not speak with Kevin directly. That would be very unlikely. It's evident that his complaint was not escalated to Kevin's level -- whether this lack of escalation is _itself_ because of direct orders to the contrary is another issue. We've all been in customer service situations where, when a manager is finally summoned, what at first sounded like corporate gospel from a lazy, self-protective, or underinformed first-level support person is promptly overridden. I have not seen any evidence that Kevin is the kind to tell people they're screwed. --Sandy Sanford Whiteman, Chief Technologist Broadleaf Systems, a division of Cypress Integrated Systems, Inc. e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SpamAssassin plugs into Declude! http://www.imprimia.com/products/software/freeutils/SPAMC32/download/release/ Defuse Dictionary Attacks: Turn Exchange or IMail mailboxes into IMail Aliases! http://www.imprimia.com/products/software/freeutils/exchange2aliases/download/release/ http://www.imprimia.com/products/software/freeutils/ldap2aliases/download/release/ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/

RE: Re[2]: [IMail Forum] Amazing IPSwitch Problems
Hi All, Yes, Sandy, that is accurate. This issue was escalated this afternoon and we will take care of it - and likewise for anyone else who ran into this situation (inventory shortage). If they show they ordered a IMail Pro Service Agreement in November, we'll honor the $695 price and add the 3 month extension. The original 3 month SA extension ran until November 29, 2005 (the day IMail/ICS 2006 shipped) but it was cleaner/clearer to just extend through the full month of November. The product being discontinued refers to the IMail Professional SA. It has been replaced with IMail at the 5 user levels (25 up to UNL). I, for one, feel obligated because another x-Imail user wrote an amazing review of other mail products in this very forum. It lead me to a product far superior to Imail and ended the frustration I and many other Imail users were feeling with IPSwitch. I still sense that frustration in current postings. Prior to Steves posting is a long series of complaints about the new version not converting contacts, and below that I see titles with words like Lost and Nightmare. Switching mail server software is a scary prospect. I want to encourage people to look at other products out there. There is life after Imail. RE: [IMail Forum] Amazing IPSwitch Problems
Yeah I agree there are other products.. But I also agree with trialling a new product before upgrading. How many people have just gone in and upgraded their current imail and come across problems? I am in the process of replicating our 8.21 setup on a dev server and will be upgrading that one shortly. I dont agree with just blindly upgrading for the sake of it.and with so many new features, there are going to be bugs. So it needs to be trialled before just upgrading. I've noticed that our smtpd service sits at 21% for some reason. A restart of the service sets it back to normal 0-25% but this has to be a problem.
