Just a note to all asking if John Peel might get a state funeral.

In the UK, *usually* the only people who are accorded that 'privilege'
are sovereigns and prime ministers, and other senior ministers. Members
of the opposition don't automatically get a state funeral. E.g., former
labour party leader John Smith didn't get one, nor will another former
Labour party leader, who was never Prime Minister, Michael Foot get one
either.

In the US IIRC, again *usually* you need to be a President or again a
senior government official to get a state funeral.
