I have a USB antenna that I can record HDTV off the air or unscrambled QAM
signaled from the cable box. The recording format is, well depends, 1080i, 720p
or 480p in MPEG-2 Transport stream .tp file. I don't know the data rate tho.

I have no idea what formats TV stations are looking for these days
for high-def footage, so I can't help there. In fact, I'd really like
to know, so please let us know what you find out!

It's possible that they can take mpeg2 files or H.264 files. If so,
then you can use Premiere to encode to those formats in HD resolution
and then deliver the resulting file (if it's small enough) on a data
DVD. Otherwise you can always drop in with a portable hard drive and
copy the file at the station.

As for Blu-Ray, I know the recorders have fallen quite a bit in
price, but I think the real sticking point is the price of the blank
discs unless they've dropped a lot in price recently as well.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
