We still run into installations that insist on POTS. I am serving a large data center that wants 20 POTS lines for elevator alarms and the such. So we have to find some old POTS line cards and install them in a DLC to generate POTS in an area that is 100% FTTH.

Cellular will be more reliable than a residential internet connection and there's some level of redundancy in the fact if one cell tower goes down, it easily fails over to the next closest tower since it's a mobile service. Then if anything happens, it's not their fault.. The Fire alarm I manage has an RF connection to the alarm company. The Battery in their RF Transmitter was going bad (In a box only they had a key to), and there was a lot of construction going on. But I just had a customer call saying they bought an alarm system that every time the Internet goes down, the alarm company calls them. In this case she says their Internet doesn’t work until they restart their router (not from us), so I assume it’s a router issue. Maybe the new alarm system is doing UPnP stuff and messing with the router. But in general, is this reasonable?
